Chasing Waterfalls
Do go chasing them
I was looking forward to a movie based on the TLC song, but color me disappointed when I realized that, though the commercials used “Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls,” the song appeared NOWHERE in the movie.
Our heroine, Amy does something computer-y for a nature magazine, but her real passion was photography, and she loves capturing people’s personalities. A photographer for the magazine broke her leg right before she was going on assignment. So, Amy asked her boss if she could go. The boss said “What the heck! Someone gave me my start. I’ll give you your start.”
The assignment was to photograph at least 4 waterfalls that are rarely seen, including Redwood Falls, which may or may not exist. She was sent to a hotel/nature-y area known for its waterfalls. First, she goes to the terribly named waterfall, Little Betsy. After getting lost, Amy went past a group of people looking at Little Betsy and started taking pictures. This dude in the group told his daughter he’d be right back, and he stood behind Amy making “clever” comments about things being discounted. Amy shrugged him off, and he reached out and yanked the sales tag from her armpit. (Who does that?! Seriously! That should have been the end of it.) He showed Amy the price tag, and it was SO FUNNY. Dude’s name is Mark North. His daughter came up and asked if Mark was making dad jokes, which was SO FUNNY.
Amy was going back to the hotel, but the got lost and ended up back at the waterfall. Mark was a tour guide with the hotel, so he offered to take her back. After he made fun of her, she asked if he knew where Redwood Falls is. He said it’s with the unicorns and other things that don’t exist (FUNNY).
The next day Mark gave Amy a compass (cause she got lost (HAHA)), and told her if she got lost it would always point her to him, Mark North. Mark was going to take a group to the waterfall, Little Susie (who named these?) and offered to take Amy. I don’t know what happened to the rest of the tour group, but Amy, Mark, and daughter were walking alone together and came upon a real bear (!!!) (Hallmark is going for realism). Amy said the key to photographing waterfalls is to capture their personalities. Little Susie’s personality is that she’s shy around other waterfalls because she isn’t as big, but she’s beautiful and has a lot to offer (eye roll).
Next Amy convinced Mark to take her to another waterfall on his day off. They had to repel down a cliff to get there. Next, Mark took Amy to a gallery showing a collection of waterfall photography. Amy said they photos aren’t very good because they don’t show the personality of the falls (never mind the legitimate critique that the pictures were all blurry). It was Amy’s dream to open a gallery to show her photography, and there happens to be a studio for rent in town.
Mark offered to take Amy to Angel Falls, which had only been photographed a couple times. He said Amy would have to swear an oath under the crescent moon, so at dusk he rowed her out on a lake (romantic) and made her swear not to tell anyone the location of Angel Falls. The next day they headed for the falls and had to camp overnight. Amy asked Mark if Redwood Falls exist. He said yes – he found it by accident once. He came upon two rocks twisted together (it’s named Twisted Sister). Someone told him Redwood falls is 212 degrees from the rock. After Amy and Mark find Angel Falls they went swimming in the waterfall pool (even though a mountain stream in the PNW in March would be freezing).
Amy submitted all her waterfall pictures, and her boss didn’t like that Amy didn’t include the coordinates for Angel Falls. She wanted a tech guy to find the coordinates for the article, but Amy’s assistant/best friend explained that Amy swore an oath not to reveal the fall’s location. The boss reluctantly agreed to keep it secret, but the next day the article came out and the location was in the article!!! Everyone at the hotel is furious at Amy because tourists might not respect Angel Falls the way they do.
Amy was going to leave the hotel, but decided she needed to talk to Mark. He was leading a group, so Amy got out her compass and started out north to find him. Meanwhile, a tour bus full of people who want to see Angel Falls just pulled up at the hotel (they read Amy’s article that morning and dropped everything they were doing to see the waterfall). Mark decided he didn’t care and went in search of Amy. Amy found the Twisted Sister rock, and then found Redwood Falls. She was about to take its picture but paused. Mark walked up and said “you can’t do it, can you?” and Amy said it felt like she would be taking a piece of its soul. And then they kissed.
The End
